Abstract :
In this paper, an extended space shift keying (ESSK) modulation scheme for MIMO channels is proposed to improve the symbol error probability (SEP) and spectral efficiency of traditional generalized space shift keying (GSSK). Compared to traditional GSSK, the number of active antennas of each time slot in ESSK can be different from symbol to symbol, which improves the spectral efficiency significantly. Furthermore, an adaptive antenna selection algorithm designed to maximize the minimum distance between the transmitted symbols based on channel state information (CSI), is also proposed in the new scheme to improve the symbol error probability. Monte Carlo simulations are performed to validate the performance of the proposed scheme.
