Abstract :
We describe a new technique utilizing electro-optic modulation to generate vector modulated millimeter-wave (mmW) signals. The method uses electrooptic frequency multiplication to produce a stable mmW signal at a harmonic of the input electrical local oscillator frequency. The in-phase and quadrature components of the mmW signal are generated using two independently modulated wavelengths having a wavelength separation sufficient to prevent heterodyne mixing. We present experimental measurements that show frequency multiplication up to n = 3 and modulation bandwidths of up to 4 GHz.
