Abstract :
A dual-band range-Doppler radar system, utilizing UHF and X-band, was developed to collect signatures of human and animal targets. To complement the dual-band radar suite, two video cameras were utilized to record simultaneous front and side view footage of the targets. The system was used to collect radar signatures of a variety of domesticated and wild animals engaged in various natural behaviors, at close range in low-clutter environments. This paper presents the initial results of a study in which the UHF Doppler data alone are used to successfully discriminate among various animal species, including human vs. non-human animals.
