  • Abstract
In recent years, because of the effects of low birth rates, developed countries are not only encountering aging population issues but also facing a shortage of quality care for the aged and disabled. Most senior and long-term care providers have difficulty recruiting and retaining a sufficient number of skillful caregivers because a caregiver is usually burdened with monitoring many people whose physical status, especially the status of their urine drainage bags, need real-time monitoring and response operations. However, any busy caregiver is prone to overlook the status of a patient, which causes problems. Therefore, this study proposes a new monitoring system that uses accelerometers to measure the vibrations of urine bags and then wirelessly transmits relevant data to further identify the status of the urine bags. The system could not only add monitoring features for patients but also facilitate the work of caregivers.
