Abstract :
This paper presents a new topology for tapping power from HVDC transmission lines. The proposed series power tap is implemented using a modular approach and IPT technology. Simulated results of a 1.8 MW series tap on a 533 kV DC transmission line are presented to demonstrate the viability of the proposed concept. Results indicate that the concept is attractive and, particularly, overcomes the technical difficulties that are associated with HV galvanic isolation.
