Abstract
Delay tolerant networks (DTNs) are sparse wireless networks. Node mobility, power outage and propagation cause disconnections regularly. DTN characteristics such as long delay, dynamic topology, and intermittent connections make routing a challenging matter. DTNs have many real applications such as military networks, interplanetary network, wildlife tracking, and etc. Message delivery ratio, dropped messages and message delivery delay are important considering factors in DTN. Regarding artificial intelligence advantages, they can be used in intelligent routing. Genetic algorithm (GA) is one of these algorithms. The proposed method, which is called GARout, takes advantage of GA in intelligent routing. GARout improves delivery ratio by an average of 23% than ER and 4% better than PRoPHET. Drop messages reduce by 80% compare to ER and PRoPHET.
