Abstract :
There is a requirement to provide an effective, concise and reliable buffer manager to implement TCP/IP protocol stack for embedded systems of small and middle size. Mbuf is the most widely-used implementation method in TCP/IP buffer management. This paper introduces simplified Mbuf implementation method whose code size is about one third of 4.4BSD-Lite. The implement method is based on Single-copy technology, and the assumption is based on bare-metal implement, namely without the support of operating system. Besides the routine Mbuf provided, the dynamic allocation and recycle of Mbuf have been realized. At the same time, this essay briefly summarizes the major way and new development of TCP/IP buffer management in recent days.
