  • Abstract
In this work, a reliable method for voltage collapse proximity estimation in large power systems is proposed. Whereas in most cases the security problems arising from the voltage instabilities, a strategy to estimate the voltage collapse proximity under the assumption that power flow calculation is not necessary, requiring only the bus voltage measurement, therefore, the proposed approach is a promising tool to be implemented on-line. The result is a model, built using statistical techniques that analyze a data base previously obtained, which contain the voltage profiles for different contingency states and respective index values calculated for the Voltage Collapse Proximity Index (VCPI).
