Abstract
Current Internet of Things (IoT) deployments, due to the plethora of devices, protocols, services and architectural instantiations, pose a considerable set of challenges to the Internet fabric as we know it. In parallel, the ever-growing integration of on-line services into everyday aspects of our society have contributed to an increasing shift of the Internet´s utilization paradigm. This short position paper considers future IoT deployments over information-centric networking, with a particular focus on management aspects. More specifically, we discuss the potential benefits from adopting an ICN-based approach for building IoT applications in the future, and identify management-related challenges along this path of research. This paper draws upon recent discussions in IRTF ICNRG on this subject matter and aims to contribute to the larger discussion that is starting in this nascent research area.
