  • Abstract
Today the lamps for home lighting are mainly belonging to two main technologies: the compact fluorescent lamp (CFL), and the solid-state lamp (SSL), which is based on the use of light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The LED lamps are the newer lighting technology, alternative to the CFL lamps, and are in fact the new market entries. The interest of producers is then addressed on them, in order to make the new lamp competitive with the CFL lamp by lowering the cost of production. This work analyzes and compares different lamps (CFL and LED lamps), produced by different manufacturers. The comparison is performed by means of laboratory measurements, in accordance with the definitions dictated by the IEEE Standard 1459-2010, in order to determine the electrical quantities that describe the type of load that they represent for the feeding network. Some recalls about the photometric quantities of interest for the lamp are treated, with especially reference for the luminance, the luminous flux, and the luminous efficiency.
