Abstract
As digital technology becomes more important in our every day lives, it seems inevitable that the online arena would be the next stage in the evolution of bookselling. Evolution of bookselling. This paper discusses basic concepts about the EDI standard, and its implementation in the book trade by comparing book trade between China and UK. The need for EDI standards was highlighted at the ´Babel´ conference as long ago as 1986. BIC was set up in 1991 to be responsible for their development and promotion. On the European front, it also provides the secretariat for EDITEUR, a pan-European book sector EDI group which coordinates work in Europe on the UN global EDI standard, EDI FACT. Based on the comparative study of book trade between UK and China by adopting EDI standard, we draw a conclusion so as to promote the development of China´s book trade.
