  • Abstract
Condition-based maintenance (CBM) has been implemented in industry to arrange the maintenance work as efficiently as possible. Case-based reasoning (CBR) can be used to automate part of the CBM decision process. However, in complex situations the final decisions have to be made by domain maintenance experts based on information gathered from several sources. This paper presents an approach for utilizing Semantic Web technologies and CBR in a knowledge base system supporting CBM services. The case knowledge base (CKB) is built over a semantic repository with an inference engine supporting ontology based information integration and data access using SPARQL queries. The knowledge base model developed for the system contains CBR task ontology and domain ontology for industrial control valves. Feasibility of the prototype CKB system was evaluated in experiments with real industrial case data.
