Abstract
The radar cross section (RCS) of an iceberg is derived in the context of a monostatic high frequency surface wave radar with a vertical dipole source driven by a pulsed waveform. The starting point of this derivation is the backscattered electric field equation as found in previous work. This equation is simplified by restricting the iceberg size to fit within the radar system´s patch width. After simplification, the power received by the radar is calculated using the electric field equation. Comparing the received power with the standard radar range equation results in a general expression for the iceberg RCS.
