Abstract
The effect of fiber nonlinearity on orthogonal frequency division multiplexing passive optical network (OFDM-PON) is investigated. The simulation and experiment demonstrations show that the fiber nonlinearity would cause energy transfer from the optical carrier to the OFDM sidebands and distorts the OFDM signal, which change the carrier to signal power ratio (CSPR) and the performance of the receiver sensitivity, thus affecting the power budget for direct detection OFDM-PON.
