Abstract :
In this paper we discuss some problems and corresponding methods for the optimal design of a M/Q separator that can be used to separate highly charged ions. We consider the enough traditional mass-separator structure, consisting of some magnetic and electrostatic devices to obtain a high order achromatic system. The discussed approach is based on the matrix formalism for Lie algebraic methods and allows providing the comprehensive investigation of desired structures.
