Abstract :
Smartphones are here to stay, transforming how we communicate, collaborate and share in our everyday lives, providing a wide variety of applications. Smartphones are becoming more affordable, 3G and 4G networks expand and mobile applications offer a convenient way to access information. The current study aims to investigate smartphone and smartphone applications utilization by university students in Cyprus. For the purpose of this work a quantitative approach is deployed in the form of a survey using a structured online questionnaire. The results show that the majority of students utilize their smartphones more than 2 hours per day mainly when they are at home. Smartphone owners consider mostly design and technology as major advantage for owning a smart device. Security, size of the app and features are the most important factors for downloading apps.
