Abstract
This paper presents an overview of the KNOWS client server system. The system is capable of cataloging individual World Wide Web servers, and building master subject catalogs of server content across the Web. Users are provided with a set of graphical tools that allow descriptions of files and directories to be built. Cataloging occurs through user interactions with this interface. The system´s communication algorithm creates a semi-reliable circular connection path through groups of servers. The client server program is described. The salient features of the system that allow cataloging to occur are described. The communication algorithms being implemented for the Internet are described
