Abstract :
A new fractal image coding algorithm based on classification in the wavelet domain is proposed in this paper, by studying the adaptability and validity of wavelet decomposition acting as preprocessing of fractal image compression. Simulation results show that the new algorithm can obtain a good compression ratio and an improved coding speed as compared to the conventional fractal image coding algorithm based on block segmentation in the space domain at the same PSNR level. It is testified to be an effective fractal image compression scheme
