Abstract
This paper describes a framework for integrating information for dynamic vehicle routing and scheduling using GIS and intelligent transport system (ITS). A description of the types of information required for its application in freight transportation is presented. The integration framework introduced here aims to accommodate both geographic features and traffic information within one seamlessly articulated environment. The systems structure as well as implementation with embedded GIS is described. A local courier service operation is used as a case study to demonstrate the potential of such a system
