Abstract :
A PDEs-based image compression method is presented. On the encoder, a PDE model is used to reduce spatial redundancy and extract the edges of the image. Then only the edges are sent to the receiver rather than the entire image. The decompression utilizes the PDE-based interpolation by taking the edge map as the interpolation mask. Since the human visual system is highly sensitive to edge, the method can produce intelligible images at high compression ratios. Experiment results show that the proposed method can preserve edges perfectly and has better visual results than JPEG2000.
