Abstract :
This paper introduces current status of intelligent transport systems (ITS) in Japan. Traffic control systems, car navigation systems, VICS and ETC are in a stage of deployment. Cruise assist systems which work cooperatively together with cars and the road, advanced comprehensive traffic control systems are being developed. ITS is expected to bring a huge market in the 21st Century. ITS is also being strongly propelled in America and Europe. Worldwide assemblies are actively held in the ITS community and international standardization programs for ITS are progressing
