Abstract :
Compared to traditional regularly distributed arrays, arrays consisting of arbitrarily distributed antenna elements can be used more flexibly because of the flexible location of their elements. However, an arbitrarily distributed array (ADA) usually cannot offer high gain. In order to study the feasibility of forming effective radiation by an ADA, an unequally spaced circular sparse array method has been used to group the antenna elements of the ADA. Finally, a genetic algorithm (GA) is adopted to modify the amplitude and phase of the elements to optimize the radiation pattern of the ADA. The depressed side-lobes and almost unchanged main lobe of the optimized pattern of the ADA have proved the validity of optimization by GA.
