Abstract
The understanding of ATM traffic characteristics is of particular importance in network protocol and architecture design, congestion control, and performance modeling for the future B-ISDN. We present the results of traffic measurement from VISTAnet, a working ATM network, to provide insight into the traffic characteristics and the implication of the congestion control in a high speed network environment. The driving application of VISTAnet is called Dynamic Radiation Therapy Planning (DRTP). The knowledge gained from this traffic study can be extended to other high performance interactive applications in general. We believe that this report is one of the first measurements available from a real application operating at OC-12c speed
