  • Abstract
In sensor networks, sensor technology must be combined with advanced networking in a network of sensors that are utilised for search and/or surveillance. This work describes an integrated ad-hoc positioning networking scheme for ocean sensor networks. The design of this scheme is driven by the requirements of surveillance, vigilance and monitoring of the ocean environment by an underwater collaborative sensor network. Of particular interest is to provide position information among the collaborative sensor nodes for processing of the collected information in a collaborative fashion. This provision should facilitate the estimation of the position, direction and velocity of detected sea targets. The enhancement to ocean sensor networks which we propose will be able to support underwater sensing tasks, therefore improving traditional ocean monitoring schemes.
