Abstract :
An auto-calibration method for a gas sensor network is discussed to achieve its maintenance-free operation for long-term environmental monitoring. Although gas sensors suffer from output drift over time, frequent recalibration of a number of sensors is a laborious task. In the proposed dynamic sensor network, mobility is given to the sensors, and they often meet other sensors and environmental monitoring stations. Sensor calibration can be performed by comparing the outputs of sensors one after another, and the entire network can thus be calibrated eventually. Simulation results are presented to show that the measurement accuracy of the sensor network is significantly improved even if some sensors are left static.
