Abstract :
A structured finite ground plane to improve the radiation pattern of arrayed monopoles is investigated. The structure introduced is formed by evenly spaced conducting circular rings surrounding the normal circular finite ground plane. We perform simulations of individual and arrayed monopoles in the presence of a traditional continuous finite ground plane and of the ring-structured finite ground plane (RGP). As a result of these investigations, we draw conclusions regarding the optimal dimensions of the RGP.
