  • Abstract
    3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) is considered to be a promising solution for smart grid because it provides both low latency and large band-width. However, LTE was not originally intended for smart grid applications, where data generated by the grid have specific delay requirements that are different from traditional data or voice communications. In this paper, the specific QoS requirement - the maximum allowed delay - imposed by smart grid on the LTE uplink communication infrastructure is first considered, we propose an Adaptive Resource Allocation (ARA) Scheme which classifies service data into three types by considering the QoS requirement of each packet and allocate resource blocks based on Signal Noise Ratio(SNR). In addition, the Residual Life Time (RLT) of each packet is further introduced, where the value of RLT determined by the tolerable waiting time of packet is updated after each transmission. It is shown by the simulation results that the proposed algorithm can flexibly and efficiently allocate the resource blocks, considerably reduce the packet loss rate and have better throughout.
