Abstract :
Wind power is widely concerned as a renewable clean energy in the smart grid. However, with the large-scale wind power integration on power system, wind farm causes negative influences such as voltage dip, and even voltage collapse to the system. In this paper, Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) is introduced into the system and used to improve the voltage stability on the basis of analyzing impact of wind power integration on voltage stability of the grid. In order to assess accurately the voltage stability of each node in wind farm incorporated system, an improved node voltage stability evaluation index is proposed. By adopting strategy for the optimal location of STATCOM based on the evaluation index, the extent of the impact of STATCOM in different locations on voltage stability is analyzed to determine the optimal location of STATCOM. Finally, the effectiveness and feasibility for the node voltage stability evaluation index are verified by the simulation of wind farm connected to IEEE 14 bus test system example.
