Abstract :
The intelligent network (IN) has a broad influence in the telecommunication industry because of its flexible telecommunication infrastructure and capabilities to integrate with computer technology. The initial IN Construction operated by DGT (Directorate General of Telecommunications), will provide advanced IN services to the public and consequently stimulate the growth of the telecommunication industry. TL (Telecommunications Laboratories), as a leading telecommunications research center, has focused on IN research for years and plays a key role in the development of IN in Taiwan. This paper describes the IN Construction stages in Taiwan and the research achievement of TL. The research consists of four model systems: IN Model-1, INSES, SCE, and SCP. IN Model-1 is the first IN prototype developed in TL. INSES is an emulation system of IN which can create and demonstrate IN services. SCE and SCP model systems will be commercialized via technical cooperation with local vendors by the end of 1995. The IN Construction to be implemented in three stages will be illustrated. In addition, goals of TL´s research and development are discussed
