Abstract
A novel timing recovery scheme for continuous phase modulation is presented and analyzed. Unlike other well known timing phase detectors for phase/frequency modulated signals the presented scheme is independent of the carrier phase and works in a fully digital way offering easy implementation in an ASIC. Moreover, very good performance characteristics in terms of phase noise and with respect to acquisition are achieved. The analysis and simulation results are confirmed by measurements showing spectral purity of up to 73 dBc/Hz
