Abstract
With the improvement of WLAN data rate, low efficiency of energy becomes more prominent. Aiming at the high rate WLAN system, a rate control algorithm which guarantees the bit error rate requirement of traffic is presented, and a across layer analysis model of energy efficiency and throughput under rate control is derived. According to the performance analysis results, we determine the way to optimize the energy efficiency, and then provide a simple and effective performance optimization method based on optimized constant transmitting power. Simulation and analysis show that the model is accurate and the constant transmit power optimization under rate control achieves the task of two dimensional selection of transmitting power and data rate which improving energy efficiency and system throughput simultaneously, and avoiding the problem of the varied hidden terminals caused by dynamically changed transmitting power for every frame.
