Abstract :
New regulations and future standards highlight the power factor correction (PFC) converter as a basic requirement for switching power supplies. Many converter topologies have been proposed, which provide almost unity power factor line current. Boost PFC converter with average-current-mode control performs the advantage of perfect PFC such as the continuous current and the ability to shape the input current to trace the input voltage. A novel thinking to have a unified design of a boost PFC converter as one block for all proposed application is highlighted in this issue. Then, external capacitor units are added depending on the application kind. The design steps are explained for the single-stage and two-stage PFC converters. As a conclusion, the design must be set on the requirements of a stable system as a step-one for the unified block and then adding external capacitor units for the other application purpose.
