Abstract
Discusses the problem of interpreting the images of straight lines in space. The organized use of computational units tuned to the occurrence of special yet commonly found, configurations in space is suggested. The organized use of these units circumvents the inherent difficulties in interpreting general configurations of lines. A comprehensive rule-based system is described for space interpretation which, in particular, will provide the capability of recognizing particular space configurations, or hypothesizing the existence of such configurations and assessing the consistency or inconsistency of resulting interpretations
