Abstract
Shot is usually used as basic unit for video content analysis, content-based indexing and retrieval. In this paper, a new method of shot boundary detection based on color feature is proposed aiming to obtain accurate detection with inexpensive cost. The technique is able to detect cut shot boundaries through the analysis of color histogram differences and an adaptive threshold that is based on a sliding window. For gradual transitions such as fades and dissolves, a preprocessing is introduced, and local histogram differences are quantified to binary values by selecting a threshold automatically with reference to the variation of histogram differences. The experimental results show that this proposed method can gain good precision and recall.
