Abstract :
Compact audio sets with integrated tuner capable of receiving the Amplitude Modulation or AM bands have long been the only remaining application in Consumer Electronics for 50Hz line transformers due to their extremely low level of electromagnetic interference (EMI). Trying to replace them by modern switch mode power supplies (SMPS) requires efficient means for analysing the noise-limited tuner sensitivity (NLTS) of the sets in order to be able to minimise interference of the SMPS with the tuner reception. In this paper a setup is proposed by which the NLTS measurement time for a complete AM band could be reduced from one day of manual testing, to less than two hours of fully automated testing.
