Abstract :
This paper describes a file system based on the shared memory. It uses virtual memory [1] to store data, and the data is in step with it in the hard disk. User process reads or writes the file stored in Overtmpfs rather than in hard disk. So Overtmpfs improves the speed of processing files. Also User process does not worry about the file has been modified by the user process on the hard disk. Overtmpfs is not just a temporary file system, but a hard disk file system of combineing with the virtual memory file system. This paper introduces the purpose of developing Overtmpfs firstly, then describes the design and implementation of the file system, through experimental data, shows the superiority of the Overtmpfs`s performance.
