Abstract
Recently, the importance of underwater wireless sensor networks (UWSN) has been grown for the applications such as underwater environmental monitoring, oceangraphic data collection, tactical surveillance and disaster prevention. In this paper, we design and implement an underwater modem by utilizing a general-purpose digital signal processor star kit (DSK) which embeds Texas Instrument TMS320C6416 digital signal processor (DSP). Digital-domain signal processing for data transmission and reception is conducted in the DSP. We evaluate the performance of the implemented modem in un-derwater environment. According to experiments, error-free communication is possible in a water tank with a data rate of 4 kbps.
