Active devices and electronics for optical systems

This paper focuses on the active optical components used within fibre networks. It defines some key terms used when reliability issues are considered. It examines the developments taking place in production of more reliable optical components, and attempts to put in perspective how these components fit into the implementation of FITL systems. Some of the issues being considered within ETSI are discussed briefly
