Abstract :
A simple technique allows effective system design and assessment of optical margin against any ageing mechanisms. Whilst the same sort of approach is relevant in the optical amplifier system regime, the introduction of a cascade of amplifiers complicates the problem. This paper explains the modifications required to construct power budgets in long-haul systems
