Abstract :
A two-dimensional electromechanical coupling model is introduced to investigate the free vibration characteristics of piezoelectric bimorph actuators. Linear piezoelectric theory is adopted for the piezoelectric lamina. The natural frequency of the actuator is determined by using variational energy method and adopting the Ritz procedure with polynomial functions as the admissible functions to arrive at the governing eigenvalue equations. The natural frequencies of parallel and anti-parallel configurations of bimorphs are considered. Different geometric effects on the vibration response are also investigated.
