Abstract :
The many aspects of digital wireless access systems are being addressed worldwide. Much of the current focus is on the radio interface specification, which will affect the features and quality-of-service realizable with any derived product/service. It is well-accepted that the quality-of-service of the public-switched telecommunication network (PSTN) must be approached to assure widespread public acceptance of evolving personal communications that relay on wireless systems. This paper summarizes standards work that has attempted to define just what is meant by wireless access quality being "similar to that of the PSTN."
