Abstract :
This paper presents an implementation of a silicon beta cell for the monitoring and treatment of patients with diabetes. The cell senses glucose and releases insulin. The biphasic insulin release is by exocytosis. Electrically excitable, the cell induces slow wave bursts with superimposed action potentials. A CMOS ISFET implementation is presented. The silicon beta cell presents low power ion sensing and intelligent processing
