Abstract :
In social news services, selecting valuable and credible news content is one of the most important issues. In traditional journalism, a small number of people called editors selected news that they considered worthwhile. Recently, several services have utilized reader voting to find news that is popular or credible but most of them are prone to abuse. In this paper, we present a collaborative news promotion algorithm, open editing algorithm, to deal with this issue. We applied this algorithm to Daum Blogger News and find its usefulness in many aspects. Our algorithm is based on the meaningful voting of open editors who were selected based on their previous contributions. By hiding the selection results of open editors, we minimized the abuse problem and suggested a way to discover newly joined bloggers who produce good news. Finally, we compared the service performance using this algorithm with the performance of human editors.
