Abstract
This paper describes a semi-automatic segmentation algorithm to outline the endocardium in apical views of echocardiograms. The user provides three landmark points in the end-diastole and end-systole frames, and the system generates the endocardial contours which can then be used to compute the volume of the left ventricle and its ejection fraction. We show qualitatively and quantitatively that the results are very good and that the system can considerably reduce user variability
