  • Abstract
    An interstitial laser system is employed for delivery of heat to tissue. The system utilizes the output of an Nd:YAG laser directed into fibreoptic probes which can be inserted into a tumor. A series of animals were heated with a single probe system to 43.0°C for 30 min. The temperature as measured by small implanted thermocouples was controlled by a feedback circuit to with 0.5°C over this interval. The pilot study showed that the technique is suitable for use in interstitial hyperthermia
