Abstract :
The authors have used their positron emission tomography (PET) design algorithm to evaluate certain performance characteristics of the CTI-931 PET tomograph. The simulation model takes into account the characteristics of the source, the interplane collimators, the scintillation crystals, the photomultiplier tubes, and the coincidence detection schemes. The results of the simulation are compared with experimental measurements from the CTI-931 tomograph, and are found to be in good agreement. The authors studied true and random coincidence rates, and noise effective count rates as a function of activity concentration of the phantom.
