Abstract
This paper presents an enhanced multiband excitation (MBE) speech coding algorithm which can synthesize high quality speech at low bit rates of 2400 bps and 1200 bps. The new algorithm improves the pitch detection, spectrum amplitude calculation, and especially the voiced/unvoiced decision. Computer simulation results show that the synthesized speech at 2400 bps has very high intelligibility and good naturalness, and at 1200 bps, the speech quality is basically equivalent to that of 2400 bps LPC-10e, and also keeps a little naturalness. The algorithm has been implemented on single TMS320C31, the result is also very satisfactory
