How we made homeworking work for us

Flack Lenton Ltd. is a contractor in the administration field and has found that many clients prefer “out of hours” work, as this leaves them free to continue their normal routine and keep contract staff invisible to the work place-this is particularly important as many have made large cuts in workforce in recent years. Industrial relations are often very sensitive issues and to see redundancies on the one hand and the employment of contract staff on the other does not make for the best relations. We have simply taken the-to us-normal “out of hours” work away from the premises and therefore “out of sight, out of mind”. Obviously not all work can be conducted in this way, but a degree of flexibility has been built into the system. We now operate a “home working” policy for staff who undertake computer work, which may involve data input, copy or audio typing, compilation of documentation or mailshots. Although this is a recent development, it is already paying dividends for both the company and workforce alike
