Abstract :
Using a standard model for the study of fracture healing, the rat femur, the acoustic impedance of the fracture callus was measured using a scanning acoustic microscope (SAM). Measurements were taken from regions of the callus that were formed through both endochondral and intramembranous ossification pathways. It was found that the tissue formed by these two mechanisms exhibited different trends in acoustic properties as the fracture healing process progressed
