Abstract :
High gain wideband transceiver antenna for Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) application is presented in this paper. The proposed antenna works in wide operational bandwidth across 1.1 GHz to 5.5 GHz frequency band. The wideband performance is achieved by chosing co-planar waveguide (CPW) line as a feeding method. In order to achieve high gain performance, a metal plate is placed at the back of the antenna. The proposed antenna is compact size with overall dimensions of 140 mm × 140 mm. The performance of the antenna for GPR application is observed by placing a square box of dry sandy soil in front of the antenna. The simulation is accomplished at three different conditions; without soil box, with soil box and with buried object embedded in soil box. The presented results include reflection coefficient, gain and radiation pattern of the antenna.
